What is Extra Sensory II?

Extra Sensory II (EXSII) is the sequel to the immensely popular Extra Sensory event. The first Extra Sensory was a simultaneous release of a map pack and mods which revolutionized what was possible for map charters to create by allowing animating of objects. EXSII returns to form by once again breaking boundaries for what is possible in Beat Saber.

EXSII features an exciting new mod, Vivify. Vivify allows mappers to compile an AssetBundle, then load, instantiate, and manipulate custom-made assets using in-game events. These assets include post-processing shaders, 3D models, audio files, textures, and pretty much anything else that can be compiled into an asset bundle. By leveraging the power of asset bundles, Vivify grants mappers complete control over all the visuals in their map.

First ever "live event"

This time, EXSII features a truly interactive live event, enabled by Synapse, a cutting-edge mod that brings players from around the world together to engage with innovative new maps in real-time. Participants compete against each other on a shared leaderboard and can communicate seamlessly using the in-game chat feature.

  • The event was an elimination style sight-read tournament, focused around maps with quirky gameplay gimmicks and visuals that haven't been seen before in Beat Saber.
  • All players in the lobby play the same maps at the same time.
  • By submitting a score on the first map, you automatically qualify for the next round
  • For each following map, a bottom percentage of scores are eliminated up until the last map, which determines who the final winner is.
  • If you end up getting eliminated, it doesn't mean you have to stop playing! You can no longer win the tournament, however, you can still experience all the maps together with everyone else.

Setup

To play the maps, download the Vivify mod and install it. Once installed, the play button on the EXSII maps should be available.

  1. Mod your copy of Beat Saber. See https://bsmg.wiki/pc-modding.html
  2. Download the correct mod .zip corresponding to your preferred game version
  3. Unzip its contents into your Beat Saber folder
  4. Start the game, if installed correctly, you should now be able to play the maps

FAQ

What versions are supported?

We will be supporting any version available as a Steam beta branch. As of writing, that is 1.29.1, 1.34.2, 1.37.1, 1.39.1, and the latest version, which is currently 1.40.3.

Where can we download the mods?

Vivify and other required mods are available above.

Quest?

The first version of the toolset will be released with Quest bundle exporting, however no port has been made for Vivify yet. It is being looked into, but it is currently not high priority.

Will Vivify replace Noodle/Chroma?

No, Vivify is another tool meant to be used alongside Noodle and Chroma. In fact, every map in EXSII uses both Noodle and Chroma in some way!
